SAFETY ON THE KOKODA TRACK

Safety on the Kokoda Track is of primary importance to EE and we have an unmatched health and injury record on the Kokoda Track to prove this. Our physical preparation programs are compulsory as we consider your ability to complete the Kokoda Track to be our responsibility. We have taken people from 12 to 72 years of age across the Track, and in 2003 successfully completed the first ever 'Ladies Only' trek of Kokoda and the first ever 'Over and Back' Kokoda expedition.

We train, screen and prepare every single client who treks Kokoda with us – this is a professional, proven, fully supervised preparation program developed by our qualified staff. No client attempts to trek Kokoda with EE without having completed our eight week Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne based training program, or our 12 week remote training program (for our regional trekkers). It is a requirement that all trekkers have received medical clearance prior to the commencement of their training.

Once on the Kokoda Track we have a comprehensive rear link satellite communication system back to a dedicated Safety Officer in Australia to whom your families and businesses have 24 hour access. We have helicopters on stand-by (if ever needed) and all our staff carry detailed evacuation points of every helicopter landing site on the Track. The medic on your trek will carry a comprehensive first aid kit which holds enough equipment and pharmaceuticals to manage any condition or injury that may occur. All our staff, not just your doctor or medic are Wilderness and Remote Area Medics.

In addition, we recruit and hand select our personal local PNG porters from villages along the Kokoda Track who accompany us on our journey. EE is highly regarded by, and has a great association with, all the villages and locals who reside across the length of the Kokoda Track. These relationships are further enhanced by our Kids of Kokoda Society Charity. We have never experienced a cultural incident or had a bad security experience on the Kokoda Track.

SAFETY AND PREPARATION ENSURE SUCCESS

In order to explain what sets EE apart, we thought the best people to ask were our clients;

In the context of adventure trekking, I doubt there has ever been or will ever be a more thoroughly professional organisation than EE. In a wild and unforgiving environment like the Kokoda Track, there is no room for half measures and in all of the planning, preparation and training, no stone was left unturned by EE in its endeavour to ensure participant safety, preparedness and enjoyment.

I was lucky enough to take part in the ANZAC Day Kokoda Trek and the organization, leadership and care taken throughout the trip by EE staff was exemplary. The entire EE organisation exudes professionalism from the admin staff to the trainers to the trek leaders and medics. When we were out on the Kokoda Track when the times got tough they made it fun, on the times it was dangerous they made it safe, and the times when a problem occurred they were quickly fixed. The EE team had that uncanny knack of not only getting the best out of the individual but also the best from the team. I would recommend them highly to anyone.

STAFF (TREK LEADERS AND MEDICS)

EE is the only company trekking Kokoda that provides two professional Australian Trek Leaders on each and every trek. One is a dedicated, highly experienced and qualified trek leader and the other is a doctor or remote area medic. Our EE medical team is lead by the very best remote area medical doctor and is regarded as the most experienced and qualified remote area medical team in Australia - without exception!

Our Trek Leaders are all former long serving members of the Department of Defence. All regular soldiers from specialist backgrounds. They understand the history of the Track and the doctrine supporting that history. You will receive full history and a number of enlightening orientation.

“The Executive Excellence Kokoda adventure gave us all the opportunity to reflect on a piece of forgotten Australian history. The sincerity, professionalism and integrity of the EE team in sharing this history with us made this challenging experience even more memorable.”

Chris Gibbs, PBS Kokoda 2007
